Kevin Crane weldingA huge congratulations to Kevin Crane for completing the fourth year of his fabrication and welding apprenticeship and securing a part-time welding teaching role at New College Durham.

Kevin has shown great determination and has been very successful representing NCD at WorldSkills competitions throughout his journey, placing in the top ten several times.

As part of his apprenticeship with NCD and his employer, MGF Trench Construction, Kevin has demonstrated a natural flair and enthusiasm for mentoring to share his welding experience and knowledge. After receiving fantastic feedback, Kevin successfully gained the opportunity to teach on our Level 1 evening class.

Kevin Crane said:

“Since joining NCD for my apprenticeship, I’ve received fantastic support with my studies, personal development, and confidence. The opportunity to work part-time as a welding tutor at NCD is a very welcome one, it has allowed me to pass on the skills I’ve learned and give back to others.”

Steven Corner, Curriculum Manager for Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, commented:

“Kevin is a credit to the college and the fabrication and welding department. He has impressed on his course at the college and with his employer at MGF Trench Construction. Kevin has also shown great determination and motivation to complete his Level 2 in maths alongside the course which is a fantastic achievement.”
