Vocational Learning Programme
We have a long-established history of delivering a high quality Vocational Learning Programme (VLP). This enhances the educational experience of young people and creates vocational and work-related learning opportunities for 14 to 16 year olds. New College Durham has established partnerships with many local schools and other partners, enabling schools to offer a more diverse curriculum at Key Stage 4.
Young people are able to study at New College Durham for one day a week throughout Key Stage 4 (year 10 and 11). They have the opportunity to work towards valued vocational and work-related qualifications and are able to develop knowledge and understanding in a work context. Upon completion of the VLP, participants have the opportunity to progress onto a full time programme or apprenticeship at the College.
Vocational areas include:
- Construction (brickwork, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, plumbing)
- Motor Vehicle
- Beauty Therapy
- Health and Social Care
- Professional Cookery and Hospitality
- Uniformed Services
