Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship
Join Starkold Building Services as a Business Administrator Apprentice and gain experience supporting Operations, Accounts, Labour & Resources and Environmental teams. Develop your administration, IT, communication and organisational skills while working towards a Level 3 Business Administrator qualification.
Starkold Building Services is a well-established Construction Logistics Company based in Durham, working nationally across the UK with a variety of major construction contractors.
Due to continued growth and an increase in activity and services, Starkold is looking to strengthen its existing office team with a Business Administrator Apprentice. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is organised, enthusiastic and keen to develop a career in business administration within a busy and varied office environment.
The successful apprentice will be based at the company's head office in Belmont, Durham, providing administrative and project support across several departments. You will work with a variety of people and gain an understanding of how different areas of a business work together.
Your role will include:
Operations Department – approximately 30%
Placing material, transport and hire orders with suppliers.
Processing online orders.
Compiling and maintaining weekly on-hire reports.
Providing general administrative support to the Operations team.
Accounts Department – approximately 25%
Carrying out accurate data entry into valuations using Microsoft Excel.
Entering information into the company's accounts package, Sage.
Using Sage Cloud 50 and associated software to support the processing and distribution of invoices.
Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the Accounts team with general administration.
Labour & Resource Department – approximately 25%
Gathering and filing foreman paperwork on a weekly basis.
Assisting with accommodation pricing and bookings for site teams.
Compiling, issuing and checking weekly timesheets.
Providing general administrative support to the Labour & Resource team.
Environmental Department – approximately 20%
Entering data for monthly waste and materials reports.
Placing orders for skips, CCTV and drain survey works.
Supporting the Environmental team with administration and record keeping.
In the future, assisting with ISO 14001 systems and carbon footprint tracking as the company continues its journey towards net zero.
Alongside these department-specific duties, you will:
Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails and telephone calls.
Assist with data entry and maintaining accurate records.
Complete a range of administrative and clerical tasks.
Use Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Teams and Outlook.
Work with colleagues across different departments to provide effective administrative support.
Help ensure that tasks are completed accurately and on time.
Develop an understanding of how administrative support contributes to the smooth running of a business.
Starkold currently manages up to 50 live projects across the UK for multiple clients, meaning the working environment is varied and constantly changing. The successful candidate will therefore have the opportunity to develop excellent organisational skills and learn how to respond positively and efficiently to changing priorities.

One day per week college attendance as part of the apprenticeship programme.
Functional Skills in English and Maths if required.
On-the-job training and support from experienced colleagues.
Training and experience across Operations, Accounts, Labour & Resources and Environmental departments.
Development of Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, Teams and Outlook.
Training in business administration, data entry, record keeping, document management and communication.
Introduction to business systems including Sage.
Ongoing support and mentoring throughout the apprenticeship.
