Age 16-18

FREE (If meet residency criteria and not enrolled at another educational institution).

If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course will be FREE. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips.

Age 19+

If you are aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course could be free dependant on the level of the course and your eligibility criteria. The Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation provides learners with a comprehensive introduction to the building services industry. The qualification enables candidates to acquire, develop, and apply the fundamental knowledge and practical skills required for employment and/or future career progression within the electrotechnology sector.

Through a combination of theoretical study and hands-on practical training, learners gain an understanding of industry standards, safe working practices, electrical principles, installation techniques, and the wider role of building services within the construction environment. This qualification serves as an essential foundation for those seeking to advance to higher-level study or pursue an apprenticeship in electrical installation.

Entry Criteria

Learners will need GCSE grade 4 or above in both math's and English or have completed the level 1 diploma in electrical installation.

Additional Costs

Learners are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for all practical sessions. This includes safety footwear, work trousers, and a long-sleeved top.

For theory sessions, learners must bring the following items: pens, pencils, a ruler, a scientific calculator, an A4 notepad, and a folder.

In addition, learners may wish to purchase the latest edition of the On-Site Guide and/or The City & Guilds Textbook: Book 1 Electrical Installations, Second Edition.

You will be required to attend face-to-face session with your tutor, who will explain the outline of the course and your progression routes from this. They will also go through colleges expectations during your time at New College Durham.
