Bootcamp Overview
- Introduction to the course, including skills, assignments, and exams; covering offshore wind orientation and harsh environment challenges, the assets of an offshore wind farm, the fundamentals of energy production, medium voltage cabling, cable types used in offshore wind and harsh environments, and the electrical properties of HV cables.
- Discussion on subsea cable stripping after pull-in, covering installation, cleating, routing, and bend radius considerations; 66kV cable phase preparation (importance of transition, sanding insulation, water block removal); video demonstration on cable phase stripping; practical exercise for learners to demonstrate cable preparation skills; and recap of sessions 1 & 2 with a quiz.
- High Voltage safety session covering safety documentation (RAMs, PTW, TBT, SDS), risk management theory, pre-start procedures for offshore wind work, radio checks and communication etiquette, and termination types for offshore wind (including types, manufacturers, and applications).
- Overview of termination accessories, their installation purpose and electrical properties. Demonstration of tools and stripping techniques for earthing windows and insulation sanding; practical exercise for learners to follow task plan; and recap of sessions 3 & 4 with a quiz.
- High Voltage cable preparation for T-Connector 66kV Type 1 & Type 2, where candidates follow specific manufacturer jointing instructions, with tutor observations to ensure good quality preparation.
- Cable testing throughout the project lifecycle, covering test equipment for specific tests, demonstrations on safely conducting HV tests, practical phase identification and conductor resistance exercises, with learners following task plans.
- Practical exercises on insulation resistance testing, DC oversheath testing, and sheath 'break' testing, with learners following task plans for each.
- High Voltage cable preparation for T-Connector 66kV Type 3, with candidates following specific manufacturer jointing instructions and tutor observations for quality preparation.
- ritten assessment (30 questions on course theory), practical assessment (66kV cable preparation and tee connector installation), course recap, and course feedback.
