Age 16-18

FREE (If meet residency criteria and not enrolled at another educational institution).

If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course will be FREE. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips.

Age 19+

If you are aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course could be free dependant on the level of the course and your eligibility criteria. The rules regarding fee reduction are complicated, we would encourage you to contact our Advice, Support and Careers Team on 0191 375 4400 or email .

Student Finance

If you are aged 19 or over and not eligible to get your course free, you could apply for an Advanced Learner Loan from the Student Loans Company to help towards the cost of some, or all, of your fees. If the amount of Advanced Learner Loan available to you is less than the Advanced Learner Loan Fee for your course, you would need to pay the difference. Level 3 IT - Creative Media Specification

This dynamic two year programme is designed for ambitious students who want to combine creativity with cutting-edge technology. You'll learn to build professional websites, mobile apps, and progressive web applications from scratch, before advancing to work with artificial intelligence, data visualisation, and immersive technologies like AR and VR.

Alongside your technical development, you'll gain essential marketing and entrepreneurial skills, learning how to promote digital products, understand your audience, and develop a business mindset that will prepare you for freelance work or launching your own creative tech ventures.

Through major creative projects, you'll develop a portfolio of real-world applications while mastering the project management and digital media skills essential for success in the tech industry.

Studying the first and second year of this course will also prepare you for progression to study a degree level course at New College Durham's University Centre or at university.

4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English or maths.

Study Aims

 

Creative technology is a rapidly growing industry combining digital development, design, and innovation. Our exciting IT Creative Media course will allow you to gain and develop the skills required to work in the tech and digital creative sectors and progress to a degree level qualification.

The course will develop your ability to build websites and mobile apps, work with artificial intelligence, visualise data, and manage digital projects from concept to completion. You will also gain a wide range of transferable skills, such as problem-solving, entrepreneurial thinking, and how to organise yourself to complete tasks efficiently and effectively.

You will benefit from working with industry-standard tools, developing a professional portfolio, and creating real-world applications that solve creative challenges.
