Unique collaboration develops specialist business incubator
New College Durham is part of a unique collaboration with Durham University and Business Durham that has developed Durham City Incubator.
The Incubator will be based at Salvus House in Aykley Heads, Durham, and has been designed to help small businesses to grow and thrive in County Durham. Companies that have been trading for under 12 months and are based in County Durham will be able to request six months of intensive support with a mentor. The training and advice provided will cover a wide range of areas, such as financing, marketing, business strategies and legal issues, to prepare business owners for the next stage of growth.
This fantastic opportunity will allow business owners to work with like-minded entrepreneurs and connect with investors. The application process involves completing an online form and sending in a two-minute video to outline why your company should be accepted onto the programme. Successful candidates will be invited to attend a pitching event.
As part of a wider drive to develop the Durham City economy, New College Durham students will have access to the Incubator, to receive support with their business ventures and to make use of the high quality facilities available.
Dawn Fairlamb, Vice Principal at New College Durham, said: “Regional and economic development is extremely important to the College. We want to ensure our students’ talents are nurtured, so they can reach their full potential and make a positive contribution to the local economy. We already have a number of students who are interested in applying to develop their ideas through the Incubator.”
