Hair and beauty students step back in time
Our talented hair and media make-up students have been working on a project with Beamish Museum, in preparation for the public event the museum will be hosting on 6 June.
The students researched 1950s hair and make-up looks so they could master the styles and develop their technique for the competition. The practice run allowed them to get a feel for the 1950s clothes provided by Beamish for on the day, and to refine their looks.
The pressure was on as the students were judged by professional 1950s hairdressers. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to develop their skills in a professional environment.
At the competition in June, the students will showcase their skills to the public and will develop their employability skills further. Beamish have also offered our students future placements in the 1950s village when it is complete.
Lindsay Deswert, Lead Practitioner in Hair & Beauty, said: “The students were a credit to the College. They showcased their skills and had freedom to explore Beamish village when they were not competing – excellent work was produced.”
