New College Durham (NCD) is proud to mark National Thank a Teacher Day by celebrating the outstanding dedication and passion of all its staff members. National Thank a Teacher Day is an annual celebration of teachers and support staff across early years settings, schools and colleges. On this special day, the college took a moment to recognise the invaluable contributions made by teachers and support staff who inspire, support, and make a real difference in the lives of students every day.
Staff were invited to come together as a community to honour the commitment of our incredible team, share stories, and express gratitude for the inspiring work being done across the college with an informal gathering for morning coffee and specially commissioned cakes.
New College Durham is especially proud that three of our exceptional staff have been recognised in the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards. The awards celebrate the impact of educators and teaching communities across the UK.
Chris Stolting, Curriculum Manager for English, was awarded the Bronze Award in the FE Teacher of the Year category. Bridget Da Silva, Curriculum Manager for English for Speakers of a Foreign Language (ESOL), has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence for FE Teacher of the Year, and Helen Miller, lecturer in English, received a Highly Commended in the same category.
Their achievements are a testament to their commitment to their profession, students and the Further Education sector, reflecting the high standard of teaching and leadership throughout the college.
Alison Maynard, Deputy Principal at NCD, presented the certificates to the award winning colleagues. Alison commented “At NCD, we believe that every member of our staff plays a vital role in creating an enriching learning environment. National Thank a Teacher Day is our chance to say thank you to those who make education an inspiring and transformative experience. We are particularly proud of our 3 members of staff awarded in the FE Teacher of the Year category.
They are outstanding teachers and leaders and we are delighted to be able to celebrate their achievements.”
