The inaugural Manufacturing Leaders’ Summit, hosted by Theo James Recruitment in partnership with New College Durham, has been hailed a major success after bringing together more than 190 manufacturing professionals, business leaders, educators and industry partners from across the North East.

Designed to champion collaboration, knowledge sharing and innovation within the sector, the event also raised an outstanding £11,000 for Red Sky Foundation, supporting its life-saving cardiac care initiatives across the region.

Held in April, the event was created with a simple ambition: to unite the manufacturing community, encourage meaningful conversations, share knowledge, and create connections that help drive the sector forward.

Alongside a packed agenda of keynote speakers, panel discussions, breakout sessions and networking opportunities, attendees heard from a range of industry leaders and experts while exploring some of the biggest opportunities and challenges facing the manufacturing sector.

Red Sky Foundation is a North East-based charity dedicated to improving the lives of babies, children and adults living with heart conditions. The charity provides funding for specialist cardiac equipment, supports NHS services and delivers life-saving defibrillators to schools and communities across the region.

Mark Bracknall, Managing Director of Theo James Recruitment, said:

"The Manufacturing Leaders’ Summit was always about more than a one-day event. Our goal was to bring people together, create valuable connections and strengthen the relationships that help our industry thrive. To have achieved that while raising £11,000 for Red Sky Foundation makes the day even more special. Having lost my Dad 5 years ago to a cardiac arrest, it is a charity that means an awful lot to me and my family"

A key factor in the event's success was the partnership with New College Durham, whose commitment to developing future talent and supporting industry made them a natural choice as venue partner.

Recently recognised by the Department for Education as one of only a handful of Advanced Manufacturing Technical Excellence Colleges in the country, New College Durham continues to play a leading role in developing the skills needed to support the future of UK manufacturing.

Alison Maynard, Deputy Principal at New College Durham, said:
"We are delighted to have partnered with Theo James Recruitment on the inaugural Manufacturing Leaders' Summit. The event reflects our shared commitment to supporting the future of advanced manufacturing through skills development, innovation and collaboration between education and industry.

At New College Durham, we are proud to work closely with employers to ensure our education and training provision reflects the evolving needs of industry. The Summit aligns perfectly with our commitment to developing the workforce of tomorrow and builds on the momentum of our recent recognition as an Advanced Manufacturing Technical Excellence College, helping us to create stronger links between education and the manufacturing sector."

Feedback from attendees consistently highlighted the venue as one of the standout aspects of the day, with many praising the college's facilities, strong links to industry and the opportunity to see first-hand the investment being made in developing the next generation of manufacturing talent.

However, beyond the presentations and speakers, one of the most significant outcomes has been the connections and partnerships created as a result of the event.
Since the summit, new conversations, collaborations and business relationships have emerged between attendees, speakers, partners and charitable organisations. Connections have also been forged between Red Sky Foundation and several organisations present on the day, creating opportunities for future support and collaboration.

Feedback from attendees highlighted not only the quality of the speakers and content, but also the opportunities to build new relationships, share experiences and create meaningful partnerships across the manufacturing community. Many described the summit as one of the best events they had attended, praising its organisation, variety of content and unique approach to bringing together manufacturing leadership, education and charitable impact.

A spokesperson for Red Sky Foundation said:

"We're incredibly grateful to everyone involved in the Manufacturing Leaders’ Summit. Partnerships like this help us continue supporting families affected by heart conditions while raising awareness of the work we do across the region. Knowing that the event has brought people together while raising funds that will directly support those living with cardiac conditions makes it incredibly special."

The summit forms part of a wider commitment by Theo James Recruitment to support and strengthen the manufacturing community across the region through events, networking opportunities, leadership development and industry collaboration.

Following the overwhelming response to the inaugural event, plans are already underway for future Manufacturing Leaders initiatives, with announcements on follow-up events and the next Manufacturing Leaders’ Summit set to be released in the coming months. For Theo James Recruitment, the success of the event demonstrates the power of bringing together industry, education and community partners around a shared goal: supporting the future of manufacturing in the North East.
