Study Aims
The AAT Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians is approved as a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) in England. This designation confirms that the syllabus meets employer-led standards and provides access to government-backed Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE) funding for eligible adult students.
The HTQ curriculum, often referred to as the L4PAT syllabus, builds advanced, workplace-ready skills and consists of core mandatory units rather than optional modules. Key features of the HTQ include:
• Financial Accounting (80 GLH) • Management Accounting (110 GLH) • Audit and Internal Controls (75 GLH) • Principles of Taxation (75 GLH) • Advanced Business Awareness (60 GLH)
Modules Studied
• Financial Accounting (80 GLH) • Management Accounting (110 GLH) • Audit and Internal Controls (75 GLH) • Principles of Taxation (75 GLH) • Advanced Business Awareness (60 GLH)
Times of Delivery
Thursday 9am-4pm
Any times indicated are based on current courses and may be subject to change in future years. Full timetables will be confirmed at the start of each course.
Teaching and Assessment
The course is assessed via computer based assessments which are taken throughout the year, and marked by the AAT.
End Point Assessment
Apprentices undertake an End Point Assessment which includes a synoptic examination, a portfolio and reflective discussion.
You could progress to a relevant higher level professional qualification such as CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA or ICAEW. Once qualified, and having met the criteria set by the AAT, you can apply for full AAT membership, which will allow you to use the designatory letters MAAT after your name. If you wish to become a chartered accountant, the study of AAT qualifications may also offer exemptions from the exams required by a range of chartered accountancy bodies. You could progress to study BA (Hons) Management part-time at New College Durham's University Centre, or a relevant degree at university.
