A Level Fine Art Middlesbrough Art Weekender response 6Our Fine Art A-Level students enjoyed visiting the exhibitions and pop-up galleries at Middlesbrough Art Weekender at the end of September.

During their visit, the students also volunteered their time for a local charity and received a piece of contemporary art.

The group have recently completed the brief to create a visual response inspired by their favourite artists.

Elias responded to Alexandre Carr’s ‘Black Matter’ – a kinetic artwork that links art and science.

Aurora created a cardboard sculpture to communicate a dysfunctional society. The response was inspired by a Stephen Irving painting representing Ukrainian aid boxes.

Joy explored ideas of ownership of art in an experiment where the clock is the artist. The piece was in response to Lucy Gregory’s ‘The Blame Game’ – an artwork that relies on audience participation to activate the artwork.

Nora chose to experiment with shadows and how negative space can create new imagery.
