Bells Press ReleaseNew College Durham and Bells Fish and Chips are working together to launch their Hospitality Academy which will help those out of work get the training they need and an opportunity to get back into employment with Bells.

The Hospitality Academy will see New College Durham delivering training on hospitality and customer service. Those who complete the course will receive a customer service qualification. Participants will also receive support on developing their CV and with interview preparation.

Participants are guaranteed an interview with Bells Fish and Chips upon completion of the academy. The company are opening a brand new restaurant in Seaham which will bring 35 new jobs to the area.

Andy Broadbent, Principal and Chief Exec of New College Durham commented: “New College Durham is committed to supporting local people to upskill so they are able to get into work. We introduced our industry-based skills academies in 2022 and we have seen great success with many people being employed following completion of the academies so far. We’re particularly excited to be working with Bells Fish and Chips; they are a local company which is very well known in the Durham area, as well as being a very reputable employer.”

In addition to a guaranteed job interview, academy participants will also meet with the Managing Director of Bells during the programme.

Graham Kennedy, Managing Director of Bells Fish and Chips, commented: “With our new restaurant opening, we recognised the importance of recruiting trained and qualified staff who can really support the business during this exciting launch phase. By working with New College Durham we’re able to create a tailored training programme to ensure we get staff who feel confident and able to carry out their roles effectively.

“This is a great opportunity for people locally who are not currently in employment. We offer an impressive salary which is at least national living wage. We offer a great work life balance with staff being able to work between 10 – 38 hours weekly to suit their needs. There are also a range of roles available. The Academy is a two week programme which commences on 16 January, running week days between 9.30am – 3.30pm.
