We are celebrating the exceptional achievement of Level 3 student, Naeve Hitchen, who received the prestigious 2022 BTEC .
Naeve had no previous experience of performing arts when she joined NCD, and is also registered as blind. She flourished on our Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts, and progressed to study on Level 3. In her first year, Naeve achieved a distinction and achieved an even more impressive grade of D*DD after completing our Level 3 Extended Diploma.
Performing Arts Lecturer, Faye Cunningham, nominated Naeve for the awards. She said:
“I entered Naeve for the 2022 BTEC Awards Performing Arts Learner of the Year. Naeve has overcome so many barriers whilst studying her course, but she has never let anything stop her from reaching her potential and following her dreams. I am so proud that she has been recognised with the Bronze Award and I am sure she will be successful in her future career.”
Naeve was delighted when she was announced as an award winner. She commented:
“It’s an honour to have even been nominated for the award by my teachers. I could not have achieved this without the support of my teachers and peers. It was the perfect ending to a great time studying at NCD.”
Commenting on Naeve’s achievement, Deputy Principal Alison Maynard said:
“We're all hugely proud of everything Naeve has achieved here at New College Durham. It is a pleasure to see how much she has progressed over the past three years. We are so pleased to see that all her hard work has paid off. The competition for awards was particularly fierce this year with each winner selected from thousands of eligible students so Naeve can be extremely proud of her achievement.”
Naeve will continue to follow her dream career in performing arts and has successfully secured a place to study a BA (Hons) Musical Theatre at renowned music and performing arts institution, LMA.
